Flower Faery Godmother

Imagine a delicate little guardian watching over you from your flower garden.
She is your Flower Faery Godmother.
Years ago, I was gifted a large number of silk flowers.  While playing around with them, I began to see petals and stamens turning into gowns and crowns. Due in no small part to the movie Fantasia, having been a major influence on me as a child, the flowers became faeries in my mind.  I began making these back in the days when I vended to add variety to my faery merchandise. There construction is relatively simple, so I thought I would share it here for some Summer fun.
I found this bunch very cheap roses that meet all the requirements for the construction of a flower faery Godmother. They offer a lot of petals to work with, plastic supports inside the the bloom, and leaves.
Other Materials:
                      White glue
                      Hot glue sticks
Acrylic paint for the face-black, white, red, blue, and silver
(I like to give them silvery blue eyes for a look of old age)
                      Glitter and glitter glue
                      A bit of green felt
                      Some yarn for hair
(pick a color that would make good granny hair)
                      A one inch pom pom
                      Beige upholstery thread
Wooden beads- 1 round 6/8" for the head
4 round 3/8" for hands and feet
4 oval 9/16" for arms and legs
Tools:
            Scissors
            Wire cutters
            Glue gun
            Heavy duty needle
            Very small paint brush

Remove bloom and leaves from wire stem.
Take plastic supports off leaves.
Disassemble bloom and separate pieces.
In this flower, there are a set of 3 leaves, 6 plastic pieces, 2 sets of 3 large petals, 1 set of 4 medium petals, and 1 set of 5 small inner petals.
Play with the petals a bit, to see what shapes will be best to create a gown.
The 2 sets of large petals make a better skirt shape with the petals flipped in the opposite direction. In the picture you can see they no longer lie flat.
Arrange the larger petals so that spaces between the petals are lined up with a full petal and the holes match.
Glue in place with hot glue.
Use medium petals to create the upper part of dress.
Glue in place with hot glue.
Glue small petals in place.
The front of the dress will have a solid structure of alternating petals(2,1,2). Make sure one small petal lines up directly at the front of the dress, covering the space between two petals of the 4 petal set.
The small petals on either side of the petal facing the front will become the sleeves of the dress.
The green fringe that was at the base of the bloom will become the neck of the dress, but it's hole needs to be trimmed a little flatter.
Glue in place with spines lying between the small petals.
The dress takes form by literally turning the bloom inside out.
Gather the wooden bead for the body of the faery.
Start with the legs and body first. This plastic support from the bloom makes a great addition to the body.
Glue pom pom inside plastic "cage", but leave space at the top.
Thread one of the small round beads.
Put both ends of the thread trough the needle.
Thread an oval bead on the needle...
and pull tight.
Time to attach the leg to the body.
Insert needle through body at a slight angle.
Add a bit of hot glue...
and pull tight.
Stick needle back through body at the opposite angle.
Thread oval bead...
and small round bead.
Remove needle and tie the two pieces of thread together to secure legs.
Add glue to ankles if feet are wobbly.
To create the hands and arms, thread needle and knot the end.
Stick needle up through bottom of flower.
Coming up under one shoulder petal.
Thread an oval bead...
and a small round bead.
Thread needle back through oval bead...
and go back through flower gown from under petal sleeve.
 Pull tight to create arm.
Stick needle through flower at opposite sleeve.
 Add oval and round beads...
stick needle back though oval bead and into flower...
 and pull tight.
Tie a knot and maybe a dab of glue.
To attach body, first clip about an inch of wire stem.

Glue wire through plastic "cage" into pompom.
Glue body in place...
with wire coming out through neck hole.
 Now she needs shoes.
Cut two small diamond shapes from the felt.
Glue on feet, using points to cover holes.
Glue back to make a heel.
Pinch some hot glue in the front to make toe of shoe.
The faery starts to take shape.
Play around with your plastic bits to find adornments you like.
I liked this look.
First a face, eyes and lips...
nose and lashes.
Glue head in place.
Now some white glue and glitter to make...
those adornments...
 sparkle!
While the glitter dries, it is time for hair.  Use white glue for this. Cover head with glue and twist yarn around to create hair line.
 Unravel strands in the back...
to make...
a little bun.
Strands of hair around her face give her personality.
Glue crown on and add a bead of hot glue like a dew drop.
 The leaves make nice wings.
Just split one leaf and paint both sides with green glitter glue.
Cut split leaf off...
and glue to whole leaf on the opposite side.
Slide wings under spine in the back...
 and hot glue in place.
Slide collar under back of head...
and hot glue in place.
Now for her wand with a hot glue dew drop...
 glue in place.
She is ready to grant your wishes!

White roses are fun to spray paint.
Wooden beads can be painted with watered down acrylic paint to create different skin tones.
The possibilities...
 are endless!
All these Flower Faery Godmothers from the same type of rose.
